Chairman and Chief Executive officer

Sir Christopher Gent is Chairman and Andrew Witty is Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Andrew Witty succeeded JP Garnier on 21 May 2008. Sir Christopher Gent succeeded Sir Christopher Hogg when he retired as Chairman on 31 December 2004. Sir Christopher Gent was Non-Executive Deputy Chairman from 1 June until 31 December 2004.

The Chairman leads the Board, and represents the Board to the CEO and other Corporate Executive Team (CET) members as necessary between Board meetings.

The CEO manages the group and implements the strategy and policies adopted by the Board.

The Chairman and the Chairmen of Board committees, communicate regularly with the CEO and other CET members.

The division of responsibilities between the role of Chairman and the CEO has been set out in writing, agreed by the Board.
