Introduction – Andrew Witty
Welcome to our “world of GSK”. This year, in addition to our Report and Accounts, we’ve produced this online review and our hope is that you will see just how much GlaxoSmithKline is changing.
We’ve put a spotlight on various parts of the business to show how we’ve been delivering against our strategic priorities; how we’re increasing transparency in our actions and how we’re operating in a way that truly reflects our values.
So, how is GSK doing? Well, in 2009 we have seen strong evidence that our strategy is working.
During the year we saw a return to sales growth, and growing diversification of our business with growth in key investment areas such as the Emerging Markets, Consumer Healthcare and Vaccines.
In R&D, we have seen a sustained delivery of our medicines and vaccines and a number of key assets are progressing well through development. One medicine I’m particularly excited about is Benlysta, potentially the first new treatment for patients with systemic lupus in over 50 years.
Another area I feel very proud about is the action we are taking to improve global public health by increasing access to our medicines. During the year we announced a series of new commitments to the world’s poorest countries and are now on the cusp of developing the world’s first malaria vaccine as it advanced into late stage clinical trials.
These and other stories in our “world of GSK” have been selected from around the globe. I hope you find them interesting and be as excited as we are about the changes we are making as we are at GlaxoSmithKline.
Thank you for visiting.
