Meet our people

Claire

I joined GSK in 2008 for an IT industrial placement.

View my diary to read about my typical week:

What made you apply to GSK?
Firstly I was attracted to GSK because of the company's strong mission statement, the desire to improve human quality of life around the world is refreshing in this current climate. The fact that the company also singles out the importance of its employees, the team atmosphere and friendly culture that exists within the firm, also made GSK attractive to me.

What made you apply to the IT industrial placement programme?
I felt that it would be a great environment for a student to start in and to improve and develop my IT skills, as well as many soft skills such as communication and time management.

What kind of support do you get?
I have a great support structure with managers, individuals within my team and GSK employees outside my immediate work group. I have regular contact with my line manager through weekly 1:1’s, where we discuss my work load as a whole and any other development objectives I have, as well as team meetings and further individual discussions with team members. The other IP’s all help each other out if one of us has a problem and act as a great social network throughout the placement.

Everyone is keen to help you learn and develop both inside your team and out...

What is the company culture like for you?
I have found the culture to be very supportive and friendly, which I found particularly helpful as a new starter. Everyone is keen to help you learn and develop both inside your team and out, which makes it really easy to approach different people within GSK. The reasonably relaxed culture enables you to enjoy your working day within a fast paced and varied environment.
