We play a key role in the manufacture and supply of bulk active ingredients to other GSK sites for use in the fight against infectious diseases. We produce almost 10% of the worldwide demand for broad spectrum cephalosporin antibiotics and we are strategically important for our specialist bulk sterile manufacturing capability.
Our product range includes cefuroxime and ceftazidime. These are injectable antibiotics that require sterile finishing, a process pioneered at our site. Cefuroxime axetil is administered orally and requires a process known as spray drying to give a precise particle size to maximise its efficacy. We also produce the early stages of an anti-viral product, lamivudine (active against HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B).

Location
Situated on the edge of the Lake District National Park in Cumbria and only 10 miles from Lake Windermere, Ulverston is a delightful market town.
Ulverston has a unique charm, with friendly and quirky independent specialist shops, traditional pubs and a wide selection of cafes, restaurants and accommodation.
The town also has most major banks and building societies, a large post office and a leisure centre. Ulverston has good road and rail links.
