Science Technical Development Programme - Global Manufacturing and Supply (GMS)
GMS leads the rapid commercialisation of GSK products, allowing team members to take a proactive, hands-on approach to shaping the world around them. Working in conjunction with other parts of the business, we ensure the smooth and rapid transition of newly developed products into full-scale manufacture. By using a variety of processes and the latest efficient technology, our global network is able to deliver four billion packs of medicines and healthcare products every single year.

Technical Development Programme structure
Patients and customers aren’t only ones who benefit from our work. By joining the 3 year GMS Technical Development Programme you’ll also see some astonishing results. The three years will be split into three placements in at least two of our business areas, at different sites. Placements usually take place within the UK or the Republic of Ireland, but advantage is taken of overseas opportunities as they arise. When nearing the end of each placement you’ll work with the management team to identify the next business area that will be appropriate for your skill development and meet GSK’s business needs. At the end of the programme, if you have delivered to the standards that we expect, you will be supported into a role within the business.
Training and development
There’s no doubt that our graduate scheme is challenging. You wouldn’t expect less. However any challenge is underpinned by both support and training and development. So we see your development being comprised of two main parts - individual technical development and centrally tailored development across three other areas. The bullet points below give you a very brief view of where the training focus lies.
Technical expertise
- Development against technical competency frameworks that set out the practical skills and knowledge required within your chosen discipline.
- Access to a core technical curriculum specific to your discipline
- A professional or technical mentor (e.g. to attain Chartership)
- Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma training and accreditation
