Introduction

Our corporate functions are based at GSK House in West London, and work with various different business areas to deliver against overall organisational goals.

As well as benefits, compensation, recruitment, organisation and leadership development, and employee health management, the HR team is also responsible for operations, strategy, communications and systems.

Our 2011 Industrial Placement Opportunities exist for students who are currently undertaking a business related degree and can demonstrate a genuine interest in Human Resource Management.

As a Human Resources Placement student you will have the opportunity to utilise and develop valuable business skills whilst being exposed to the dynamics workings of a truly diverse global organisation.

Human Resources Placements can be undertaken in a range of business areas including:

  1. Graduate Recruitment: the University Recruitment (UR) team is responsible for the sourcing and selection of high quality Graduates for our Graduate Development Programmes and Industrial Placements.

  2. Business Human Resources: along with providing consistent HR processes where practicable, the HR team drives organisational design and development to support the longer term objectives of the business.

  3. Leadership, Organisational Development: Human Resources and Leadership, Organisational Development are critical parts of our business. As a function, we have responsibility for delivering the global GSK strategy by developing critical capability in Leaders, talent and through effectively supporting GSK through the massive organisational changes it is facing.

Graduate Recruitment

The University Recruitment (UR) team is responsible for the sourcing and selection of high quality Graduates for our Graduate Development Programmes and Industrial Placements.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting UK UR with all marketing materials and events
  • Using your knowledge and experience of University life and the needs of 'Generation Y' to ensure our continued success in sourcing key graduate talent.
  • Leading the design of interactive web tools – an interest or and understanding of X technology will be an advantage
  • Managing all internet advertising and UR's internal intranet pages
  • Organising Graduate Assessment Centres and providing support to new starters
  • Reviewing UR processes and helping the team to identify new and innovative recruitment tools
  • Providing recruitment advice and guidance to GSK line managers
  • Review and evaluate UR activity to deliver metrics, reporting, feedback, statistics and benchmarking data e.g. diversity

Business Human Resources

Along with providing consistent HR processes where practicable, the HR team drives organisational design and development to support the longer term objectives of the business.

Responsibilities include:

  • Intranet support activities including development of communities in line with GSK Knowledge Management Strategy. This includes collation and publication of HR best practice from Global Manufacturing and Supply (GMS) sites and co-ordination of Global Knowledge Sharing conferences
  • Support of the UK Consultation process, co-ordinating employee representative meetings and developing consultation material and processes as appropriate.
  • Maintaining the personnel files for the manufacturing and global functions divisions in an audit ready state, and establishing a clear process for file storage which indicates responsibility and accountability.
  • The role also requires the need to participate in additional project work as required by the business.

Global Talent Programmes

The Global Talent Programme team is part of HR and responsible for aspects of global talent development strategy; designing and creating appropriate programmes and then driving implementation with business groups and/or geographic regions. This includes the development of existing programmes such as University Development, MBA Development (Esprit) and Volunteering (PULSE).

Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for a range of administrative activities, including organising tam and individual meetings, budget tracking, expenses and electronic organisation of documents
  • Assisting the organisation of candidate application, selection and assessment process for our programmes
  • Communicating and assisting with employees to support their participation on the programmes across the globe
  • Providing advice and guidance to GSK Line and HR Managers about the Talent Programmes
  • Supporting Global Talent Programmes with communication, marketing materials and events
  • Maintaining a community team site and internal website to facilitate sharing of information on the programmes with company employees
  • Collecting and organising information for news updates on assignments and achievements, including stories, photos and videos
  • Using social and digital media to connect employees on programmes
  • Review and evaluate our activity to deliver metrics, reporting, feedback, statistics and benchmarking data e.g. diversity
  • Reviewing our processes and helping the team to identify new and innovative approaches

Leadership, Organisational Development

Human Resources and Leadership, Organisational Development are critical parts of our business. As a function, we have responsibility for delivering the global GSK strategy by developing critical capability in Leaders, talent and through effectively supporting GSK through the massive organisational changes it is facing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, development and running of key learning solutions
  • Compilation of data and tracking of key talent, including data analysis and reporting
  • Research of current and new trends in Executive and Leadership Development and learning and development
  • Development of a full learning curriculum for key leadership levels, together with Marketing and on-going effective communications of our offers
  • Evaluation, feedback and measurement of impact
  • Design of key team and large meeting processes for engagement and learning, including selection of key speakers, facilitators or tutors

Coaching

Coaching is about performance, development and fulfilment. At the heart of coaching is the belief that people can find their own answers. It is the single most effective intervention for leaders to reach their own and business goals. Coaching supports leaders as they move into often uncharted territory – building leadership capability with laser like focus. It is the key lever in the achievement of the GSK strategic goals, specifically empowerment and building trust. It is more than an activity; it is a way of being.

Responsibilities could include the following:

  • Designing materials used in courses distributed globally
  • Running the in-house Coaching Programmes, including booking meeting rooms, ensuring materials are at the training session
  • Organising the feedback of the sessions to the delegates
  • Compilation of data and tracking of coaching programmes, including data analysis and reporting
  • Marketing and communication of the Coaching Group
