Introduction

Each year GSK spends more than £7 billion on materials, services, and capital equipment.  It is the role of Procurement to manage this spend and source suppliers for all strategic and operational purchases at GSK. Our mission is to enable GSK to achieve its operational and financial objectives, by delivering significant savings while meeting or exceeding all business requirements - including availability, quality, and service. Our core business process, Sourcing Group Management, involves cross-functional collaboration between Procurement professionals and our internal business partners to maximise the benefit of supplier agreements and contracts to GSK.

R&D

Work during the placement will be a specific assignment within the Research & Development (R&D) Procurement team. The focus of the R&D Procurement team on the appointment and management those suppliers that support our research and development organisation. The team works collaboratively with internal business customers and GSK's external partners to understand what the business needs while analysing the external supply market to identify preferred suppliers for that commodity or service. The team uses specific tools and processes to manage those suppliers once a contract has been signed to optimise the value from the supplier relationship.

Typical activities in R&D Procurement would include:

  • Supplier market analysis.
  • Leading a cross functional team to appoint a preferred supplier for a good or service.
  • Supply base management such as supplier rationalisation programmes.
  • Supply risk management and ensuring appropriate mitigation plans exist within GSK and the appropriate supplier(s).
  • Driving value through increased compliance to preferred contracts or through specification management.
  • Creation and execution of targeted supplier management programmes to drive incremental value, performance improvement and innovation capture.

R&D Procurement UK operations are based in GSK House, Brentford, and Ware in Hertfordshire.

Business Planning

We are offering you the opportunity to work with senior procurement professionals. The work will focus on specific assignments to deliver benefit to the Production Procurement's organisation as part of the Business Planning team. This team works across the global Production Procurement organisation developing and managing compliance and governance process, and leading change management activities. During this time you will be provided with the appropriate level of support and training.

Procurement UK operations are centralised in GSK House, Brentford, with satellite operations in Ware in Hertfordshire and Barnard Castle in Yorkshire.

Location: Brentford

The role will include:

  • Implementation and management of meaningful and precise metrics to measure performance including individual and Shared Service accountability.
  • Implementation of changes in ways of working in the Production Procurement organisation on an as-needed basis, engaging appropriate stakeholders as required.
  • Championing and supporting the use of Production Procurement common processes, including Risk Management, SGM and Supplier Management across the department.
  • Promote compliance and adherence to guidelines, standards and best practice related to Production Procurement process development and implementation.
  • Monitor progress and regularly update senior management of progress against approved plans.
  • Stakeholder management and influencing of customer interfaces.
  • Participation in key organisational process improvement activities, including facilitating standardisation, performance measurement, Production Procurement processes and e-procurement tools associated with Governance.
  • For specific projects, the maintenance and co-ordination of an overall implementation plan for Production Procurement documenting all key activities that must be undertaken and tracking that project objectives are achieved on time and on budget.
  • Preparation of presentations/ briefings for onward communication across the Production Procurement organisation.
  • Maintenance and updates for key Production Procurement activities associated with Governance.
  • Completing ad-hoc requests for data/ information on Governance related areas and providing summary position/presenting results.
  • Participation in the education and training of Commodity Managers/Buyers in Governance related areas.

In order to be successful in this role we are looking for the following:

  • Studying for a degree in any discipline but preference for business studies, purchasing, supply chain, logistics focus.
  • Demonstrate leadership potential.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to build good working relationships across all levels of seniority within the organisation.
  • Data analysis and presentation experience.
  • High level of numeric and computer literacy.
