Chemometrician / Process Engineer

Degree type: PhD in Process Analytics and Quality Technology
Tell me about the Chemometrician Technical Development Programme.
My PhD was actually sponsored by GSK, so I had a good insight into the company while I was doing my research. The technology available and the talented people I had been working with made me feel confident that GSK could offer me what I was looking for. For a start, they have a great platform in place for a technical discipline such as chemometrics. From manufacturing processes to business intelligence packages, the projects you work on are all built around the very latest industry advances, including Process Analytical Technology (PAT).
What can I look forward to?
During the programme, you can expect to work on a wide range of projects involving different manufacturing processes and multi-disciplinary teams. It’s a great opportunity to apply your chemometrics knowledge at the same time as learning other disciplines and gaining an insight into the manufacturing business overall. As I’ve developed a broader understanding of the business, I’ve been able to move into chemometrician process engineer role in the Process Engineering team. This has allowed me to broaden my skill set at the same time as developing my talents in other technical areas.
It's simply down to me to show what I can achieve.
What kind of support will I receive?
Professional coaching is provided by senior chemometricians - really useful when it comes to making sure your learning curve is set at the right level. Advanced technical training in chemometrics, statistics and process engineering is also available at different levels too. On top of all that, I’ve had the opportunity to attend internal and external conferences as well.
What does it lead on to?
Personally, my career aspirations involve gaining wide exposure throughout the GSK network and using that to become a future leader in the industry. GSK is supporting this ambition wholeheartedly by providing me with the space and opportunity I need to continue developing. It’s simply down to me to show what I can achieve.
