GSK provided medicines in response to the disaster caused by the hurricanes and floods in El Salvador in November 2009. Raging floods and landslides caused the deaths of over 130 people and huge numbers of homes were destroyed leaving more than 10,000 people living in shelters with no electricity and clean water around the capital, San Salvador, and the central province of San Vicente.
Through our humanitarian relief partner, AmeriCares, GSK airlifted a consignment of much needed antibiotics and dermatological products to meet the needs of affected communities.
Jose Alvarado, GSK’s Public Business Manager Central America, comments, “This disaster has caused great disruption to the country of El Salvador and the medical needs to prevent widespread disease are huge. It makes me proud to know that GSK is able to step in at times like these and provide support to communities in need with our medicines".
