The 2006 Impact Awards overall winner was the Hartlepool Families First (HFF), a unique charity providing innovative and wide-ranging community health services in some of the most deprived areas of Hartlepool.
The charity’s team of professional nursing staff travel the area in a specially reconditioned double-decker bus, providing health checks and information on a wide range of health issues such as smoking, alcohol, drugs, sexual health and health eating.
They also run a mobile youth service that helps to educate young people about drugs, alcohol, anti-social behaviour and safe sex, as well as working with young homeless people to help them keep themselves healthy and safe.
Winning the 2006 IMPACT Award will enable HFF to continue its invaluable work amongst the deprived communities of Hartlepool.
We were thrilled to be chosen as a GlaxoSmithKline IMPACT Award winner. We have a lot of work to do in Hartlepool to help groups of people improve their lifestyles and to look after their health. Over the last 2 years our health bus has assisted more than 10,000 people and with this award, the financial help will mean that we can carry on to reach out to those communities which need us most.
