The overall winner in 2007 is ERIC (Education and Resources for Improving Childhood Continence). ERIC is a Bristol based organisation that works nationally to reduce the suffering caused to young people by bedwetting and other problems of bladder and bowel control. Founded in 1987, it provides information and support to young people, their families and health professionals and operates a weekday telephone helpline.
At least three quarters of a million young people experience continence difficulties, yet only one in three families currently come forward for help. This issue is very sensitive and can lead to young people being teased or bullied at school and excluded from social activities.
Winning the IMPACT award is a huge boost to ERIC’s small team. To have national recognition for the quality of our work is much welcomed and will help us spread our message further. The award will aid our outreach work and through this we hope to encourage more children and families suffering from the effects of continence difficulties to come forward and seek help and support.
