Understanding treatment options in Asia
…having Positive Action’s support has allowed us to build capacity and grow these programs in a way that nobody else was providing support for at the time
Kevin Frost, Treat Asia, amfAR
In communities gaining access to HIV therapies for the first time, understanding how treatments work and what choices they allow is critical to maximising the benefits that treatment can bring.
In partnership with the Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), Positive Action is supporting TREATAsia, an amfAR network of clinics, hospitals, research institutions and patient support organisations to help communities prepare for new treatment programmes. This includes individual community projects in China, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam and the creation of an advocacy network across the region.
Zhu’s story:
Zhu and her husband Huang live in one of the poorest regions in China. They became infected with HIV through dirty needles when they sold their blood. Their treatment is confusing, especially as they can’t read the labels. But they are being supported by a Positive Action programme that uses pictograms and peer education to help them. Zhu and Huang now understand the importance of taking their medicines and are responding well.
