Education programmes

We support a range of educational programmes in the UK and US with the aim of developing an understanding of science issues in everyday life and inspiring young people to take up careers in science.

Our science education programmes are based on two themes:

  • Giving science context: making science more relevant to young people by giving pupils access to GSK scientists and facilities; encouraging students to participate in activities such as science demonstrations and hands-on events; sponsoring and producing resources for science teachers.
  • Enhancing science teaching: supporting professional development for science teachers.

Through Science Across the World schools worldwide discuss science issues through the internet.

The Destiny travelling science laboratory program encourages students in North Carolina to pursue science careers and Science in the Summer gets children excited about studying science with hands-on experiments.

In the UK we support teachers' professional development through the Active Assessment project.
