The pioneering work of REACT (Rapid Effective Assistance for Children with potentially Terminal illness) is unrivalled in the UK.
Providing a rapid response to requests for help within hours of an emergency call, REACT is a lifeline for low-income families caring for a terminally ill child.
GSK’s financial support for this regional programme will help REACT raise awareness of the help and support it can offer to the estimated 5,000 children whose families cannot afford the costly care they require.
Ten-year-old Dean lives with severe quadriplegic cerebral palsy. His condition means that he needs continual surgery to correct his posture as he grows. His mother gave up work to care for him full time, so the family has little money to provide equipment to take his mind off the pain and discomfort. Within days of making a request, REACT was able to supply expensive, specialist equipment to soothe and stimulate Dean after his latest operations.
