Active Assessment: Thinking, learning and assessment in science
Everybody seems to be talking about assessment for learning. This book and CD, by Stuart Naylor and Brenda Keogh with Anne Goldsworthy, show you how to do it.
Using a highly creative approach the book explains in detail how assessment, thinking and learning can be integrated in science lessons. More than 30 different assessment techniques are described, with each one illustrated (in A4 photocopiable format) for two different age ranges. Concise teachers' notes for each technique tell you:
Electronic versions of the activities are provided on the accompanying CD, and the colour poster adds further support for science investigation and enquiry. This resource will be invaluable for primary and secondary teachers, student teachers, science co-ordinators and advisers/inspectors.

Chemistry for Non-specialists
Only 25 per cent of secondary school science teachers are chemistry specialists. As a result in many schools most of the chemistry in Key Stage 3 is taught by non-chemists. This situation is also very common at Kay Stage 4.
This project will train non-specialists in the art and craft of chemistry so that they can deliver it with confidence and flair. Teachers will experience four days of training spread over two terms with plenty of hands-on practical chemistry.

Chemistry for Non-specialists is available to teachers UK-wide and is developed and managed by the Royal Society of Chemistry. The project is supported by GlaxoSmithKline. 50% of the £1.3 million project funding has been provided by the Department for Education and Skills.
