10th Anniversary of Lymphatic Filariasis

Celebration and discussion at The Carter Center
4 December 2008

Andrew Witty and former US President Jimmy Carter co-hosted a reception at The Carter Center in Atlanta to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our successful collaboration to eliminate lymphatic filariasis (LF). President Carter was the catalyst for GSK’s involvement in the global programme.

Andrew Witty and Jimmy CarterThe reception was preceded by an expert panel discussion, attended by global health leaders to debate Past, Present and Future Partnerships In Disease Elimination and Eradication. A written report and video are now available of this event.

President Carter established The Carter Center after he left the US Presidential office in 1980, to focus on global health and peace.  GSK has supported The Carter Center’s work on LF and as part of that support our CEO Andrew Witty gave an additional $250,000 GSK donation to launch the LF programme in Ethiopia.

Andrew Witty and Jimmy CarterRemarkable progress is being made to rid the world of this debilitating disease and now we are increasing our support for the programme, which will benefit millions of people, many in India. See Andrew talking about our commitment for the programme below.
