| Employee Health Management (EHM) reports through the Human Resources
organisation. They work closely with Corporate Environment, Health
and Safety (CEHS) and the two groups are connected organisationally:
the Global Health Strategy and Governance group within EHM reports
on a dotted line to the Vice President of CEHS. The two groups collaborate
on audits, on health and safety programmes and initiatives, and
on injury and illness reporting. Employee Health Management is structured
as a shared service within the US and UK and as an above site, global
function. There are four teams, members of which are based in the
US and UK:
-
The Global Health Strategy and Governance team
develops employee health-related policies, standards, guidance
and tools and reviews their implementation through audits conducted
in collaboration with CEHS. The team supports GlaxoSmithKline
sites around the world to achieve company standards, protect
the health of their employees, and optimise health-related productivity.
It recruits, coaches and trains a global network of employee
health professionals. It also develops and implements best practice
programmes and initiatives. In partnership with CEHS, this team
collects, validates, analyses and reports employee health data
from all operations to facilitate evidence-based decision making.
-
US and UK EHM Shared Service teams, work with
management, Corporate and site environment, health and safety
professionals, and Human Resources to manage health risks associated
with business activity in the US and UK. They maximise employee
productivity by protecting and restoring health and by minimising
health-related absence from work. They work in partnership with
Benefits and Organisational Development departments to support
organisational productivity by promoting resilience and advising
managers when health has impacts on employee performance.
-
The Planning and Effectiveness team focuses
on two key areas: EHM process innovation and communications,
including system optimisation and the use of technology. It
reviews EHM processes and their use of information systems to
streamline work and enhance effectiveness. The team collects
health-related data to support interventions that minimise health-related
expenditure and optimise human performance. This team uses GlaxoSmithKline's
intranet to deliver innovative and cost-effective employee health
management, for example the team resilience process that includes
assessment tools and resources to assist managers in building
healthy, resilient teams. In 2004 this team will launch an Employee
Health Community web site that will enable health professionals
from around the world to network and share procedures and best
practices.
