Mobilising for Malaria

Mobilising for Malaria - Advocacy trainingIn 2005, the AMP announced a three-year grant of $1.7 million to the Malaria Consortium, for a new initiative, 'Mobilising for Malaria'. The programme’s major goal is to combat malaria in Africa through increased and sustained advocacy activities in Europe and Africa to generate greater awareness, political commitment and sustained funding.

The programme is linked to the 'Roll Back Malaria' international partnership which aims to inform politicians, the media and the general public in developing and industrialised countries about the immense toll of malaria, as well as effective strategies to combat the pandemic.

In 2006, Mobilising For Malaria launched national 'Coalitions Against Malaria' in the UK, Belgium, France, Ethiopia and Cameroon, bringing together advocates and activists from the public sector, non-government organisations, the media, the private sector as well as political, academic and scientific communities to re-energise the response to the threat of malaria worldwide.

Mobilising for Malaria - Advocacy trainingThe Future
In recognition our global commitment to fight malaria, we were proud to be awardedthe Frost and Sullivan Global Excellence Award in Malaria Prevention and Treatment in 2006. The judges commented that we had 'made facing the challenges of malaria a key corporate responsibility issue, using core business skills and resources, as well as philanthropic community programmes, to contribute to global efforts to tackle this disease.'

Tackling malaria remains one of our key objectives and we will continue to work with organisations around the world until this catastrophic disease is all but eliminated.
