How we work

Partnering with academic researchers is an important component of our R&D activities.

We wish to promote interactions between GSK and academic scientists to facilitate the rapid discovery and development of new medicines for patients.

Collaborations are complementary to our in-house efforts, and vary considerably in their size and nature, being structured around the research question and the expertise offered by each party.

What we offer

Academic collaborators interact directly with GSK scientists, who are highly motivated to ensure the goals of the project are achieved, and results are disseminated appropriately - for example as publications. In addition, we recently created the Academic Discovery Performance Unit as a specialist team that works specifically with academics on a portfolio of novel targets.

We give our academic partners the freedom to make their ideas a reality by providing the unique capabilities and expertise of a large-scale pharmaceutical company. This may give you the opportunity to benefit from GSK drug discovery infrastructure and support.

We are looking to advance scientific understanding in the following key areas:

  • Respiratory
  • Metabolic pathways
  • Immuno-inflammation
  • Neurosciences
  • Infectious diseases
  • Oncology
  • Ophthalmology
  • Biopharmaceuticals
