Fighting disease in the developing world
Fighting disease in the developing world
Our specialist R&D facility at Tres Cantos in Madrid now offers lab space to external scientists and academics who are also working on neglected diseases of the developing world. Our aim is to stimulate new ways of thinking about how research is carried out.
We welcome proposals from research bodies who believe that bringing their ideas into the collaborative atmosphere of Tres Cantos can help to progress their research.
The Tres Cantos Open Lab Foundation
To support external scientists coming into the campus, we donated £5 million in January 2010 to set up an independent charity, the Tres Cantos Open Lab Foundation. A governing board of leading scientists within the field provides strategic direction for the foundation and for the research it carries out.
All projects supported by the Open Lab Foundation must contribute to research that helps discover new medicines for diseases of the developing world. In this way we are seeking to address the funding issues that have long prevented significant attention being given to diseases particularly common in the least developed countries.
We believe those of us involved in healthcare should make a more proportionate response to recognising and finding practical answers to a world problem that has been overlooked.
