SciNovations

Like scientists everywhere, those in GSK R&D compete for publication. And they fare very well, winning place for their papers in leading journals and at international congresses. But there is also an internal forum in which they seek to explain their work, a science fest apart from the many meetings at GSK where medicines in the making must pass scientific challenge. It’s called SciNovations.

As Peter Agre might ask, have you ever considered how your life is sustained every moment by the distribution of water within your own body? And, if you are a biologist, Agre might ask still more specifically what thought you have given to something called aquaporins.

Clinical Trials

Like all innovative pharmaceutical companies, we carry out a series of clinical trials to test each investigational drug for the potential to become a new medicine

The effect of the potential drug will often be compared to that of an inactive substance, a placebo, which is prepared to look like the drug so as to prevent bias during the trial. The investigational drug may also be compared against marketed medicines.

Diseases of the developing world

We have been involved in research into diseases of the developing world for many years.

Our objective is to discover, develop and make available new drugs and vaccines for treatment or prevention of diseases of the developing world, primarily the World Health Organization's (WHO) priority diseases: malaria, HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.
