British Heart Foundation (BHF)

Their vision is of a world in which people do not die prematurely of heart disease. They will achieve this through pioneering research, vital prevention activity and ensuring quality care and support for everyone living with heart disease.

As the nation's heart charity, the British Heart Foundation focuses on three vital things:

  • Investing in pioneering research
They fund around 1,200 research projects investigating every aspect of heart disease - from causes and safer drugs to improving surgical techniques.
  • Supporting and caring for heart patients
They fund BHF Nurses who visit heart patients with all types of heart conditions in their homes. They provide defibrillators and echocardiograph machines for hospitals, emergency services and first-aiders.
  • Providing vital information to help people reduce their own risk of dying prematurely from a heart or circulatory related illness
They produce publications, videos and other materials for health professionals and the public including children. They inform people about how to improve the health of their heart through public information campaigns, advertising and the media.

We are a new supporter of this group in 2007.

During 2007:

  • We gave an unrestricted Medical Fellowship donation of £100 to support the British Heart Foundation for the benefit of patients, following a charity team building event at the 2007 Medical Conference.

Our funding represents less than 0.01 per cent of their income overall.
