National AIDS Trust (NAT)
NAT is the UK's leading independent policy and campaigning voice on HIV and AIDS.
They develop policies and campaign to halt the spread of HIV and AIDS, and improve the quality of life of people affected by HIV, both in the UK and internationally.
They aim to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS, ensure people living with HIV have access to early testing and effective treatment and care, and eradicate HIV-related stigma and discrimination.
We have supported this organisation since 1988.
During 2006:
- NAT has a history of working with employers to address stigma in the workplace including the “Positive Action at Work” project, which is now managed by an external consultant. GSK gave a grant of £50,000 for this project to further develop and adapt a stigma-reducing workplace resource to support employers implementing a comprehensive HIV and AIDS workplace programme. The resource addresses workplace stigma and discrimination through education and support of peer educators. The materials have been developed in English and Kiswahili and translated into French and Spanish, with local adaptations for Africa, Latin America and India. The materials are shared free of cost with national HIV and AIDS business coalitions.
- NAT oversees this project and manages the grant by providing financial management resources and other support. NAT receives a 12 per cent management fee for this support.
GSK’s management fee to NAT (£6,000) represents less than 1 per cent of NAT’s overall funding during 2006.
