The Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS)

The Parkinson's Disease Society provide support, advice and information to people with Parkinson's, their carers, families and friends, and to health and social services professionals involved in management and care. Their brand values are to be supportive, inclusive and expert. They are a registered charity.

Each year the Society spends more than £2 million on funding research into the cause, cure and prevention of Parkinson's, and improvements in available treatments. The Society also develops models of good practice in service provision, such as Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialists and respite care, and campaigns for changes that will improve the lives of people affected by Parkinson's.

We have supported this organisation since 1997.

During 2007:

  • We gave an unrestricted Medical Fellowship donation of £100 to support PDS for the benefit of patients, following a charity team building event at the 2007 Medical Conference.
  • We gave an unrestricted donation of £100 to support PDS for the benefit of patients, following the sad loss of a colleague's father.
  • We gave a Medical Fellowship grant of £13,000 towards new Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialist posts.

Our funding represents 0.09 per cent of their income overall.

Find out more about our support in 2006
In 2006:

We continued to provide non financial support towards a joint initiative with PDS called Healthy Alliance. Its aim is to create a unique specialist resource that provides a dedicated package of training and development for nurses who work in this demanding role, helping develop the services they can offer to patients.
We gave a medical fellowship award of £20,750 to the Parkinson's disease fund to contribute towards funding Parkinson's disease Specialist Nurses across the UK.
Our staff continued to support the 'Compassion Day initiative' where twelve members gave one working day back to Parkinson's disease and become a volunteer for a day. There have been a range of activities on these days from fund raising with a collection tin out side the supermarket, assisting on PD days out pushing wheel chairs, redecoration of a holiday home to being the nurse on call at the PDS AGM.
Our funding represents 0.14 per cent of their income overall.
