Positively Women

Positively Women is the only national charity working to improve the quality of life of women and families affected by HIV.

Support services are central to their work. This is vital in supporting women in coming to terms with a new diagnosis, manage their physical and mental health and move forward.

Positively Women’s beneficiaries have gained from support by other women living with HIV. One-to-one support provides the necessary foundation from which women can move on to accessing groups, becoming involved through volunteering and actively participating in defining their own health and social care needs.

Every year they reach over 1000 women living with HIV.

All their services are free to women living with HIV.

We have supported this organisation for over four years.

During 2006:

  • We gave a medical fellowship grant of £5,000 to enable Positively Women to run a series of five treatment workshops in London and the regions. Positively Women’s Treatment Support project aims to demystify the complexity of drug therapies, support women gain a better understanding of treatment issues, the questions to ask health practitioners and thereby make informed choices around treatment issues. This empowers women to take better control of their health by making well informed choices about HIV therapy.

Our funding represents 1 per cent of their income overall.
