QUIT

QUIT aims to significantly reduce unnecessary suffering and death from smoking related diseases, and aim towards a smoke free UK future. They provide practical help, advice and support to all smokers who want to stop.

They aim to save lives by preventing the development of cancer, heart disease and other illnesses from use of tobacco.

They create effective partnerships with UK, European and International organisations that share their mission to improve the health, lifestyle and finances of smokers.

We have supported this group since 2000.

During 2007:

  • We gave £234,000 to fund a dedicated prescription only medicine patient support helpline providing help and advice for individuals prescribed medication to help them quit smoking.
  • We gave £30,000 to fund the NiQuitin Smoke Free UK QUIT Awards with The Daily Mirror
    • Research for launch – QUIT have carried out research on non-smokers who normally go to Bingo Halls, Betting Shops and Pubs and gave them saliva tests.  In most cases the reading was equivalent to having smoked 5 cigarettes.
    • QUIT contacted previous Quitter of the Year award finalists  (24 ex-smokers) from the last 3 years and asked for their tips and advice on how they have remained smoke free.
    • Launched in The Daily Mirror newspaper, the NiQuitin Smoke Free UK QUIT Awards encourage readers to quit for a Smoke Free UK.
    • Additional regional launch publicity was relevant to each country’s legislation.
    • Promoting the launch information with all media.
    • QUIT organised branded radio campaign on 20 key regional radio stations. QUIT staff did interviews.
    • November and December 13 semi-finalists, the majority of case stories were promoted in the regional press.
    • Mid December the winners will be announced in The Daily Mirror (subject to editorial space) and this will be followed by extensive regional publicity.

Our funding represents 11.8 per cent of their income overall.
