August 2009 interim update

Updates to information in our 2008 Corporate Responsibility report which was published in March 2009 have been inserted into the relevant sections of the report and are outlined below:

Pandemic Flu

• Read about our response to the H1N1 influenza outbreak

Access to medicines

• Updates on our recent commitments on intellectual property, pricing, research and infrastructure
• New company combining the GSK and Pfizer HIV businesses
• Extension of voluntary licensing to cover abacavir
• Creation of new 'Positive Action for Children’ fund
• Initiation of malaria vaccine phase III trial

Other updates include

• Meeting our objectives on disclosure of trial results summaries for all new products on our Clinical Study Register
• Completion of the Avandia cardiovascular outcome study RECORD and commencement of the TIDE study
• Our work with PhRMA on developing industry guidelines on working with patient groups
