Patient group funding
Alzheimer Europe (AE)
Alzheimer Europe is a non-profit organisation which aims to improve the care and treatment of Alzheimer patients through intensified collaboration between its member associations.
We have supported this organisation since 2005.
During 2010:
- We gave two unrestricted grants of $7,500 and €30,000 to help them with their activities
Our support represents 3.03% of their overall income. (Subject to final audited figures).
During 2009:
- We gave an unrestricted grant of €30,000 to help them with their activities
- We also gave an honoraria of €500 to support the attendance of the Director General at GSK’s European Health Advisory Board meeting
- In addition, we gave an unrestricted grant of $7,500 to help them with their activities
During 2008:
- We gave an unrestricted grant of €40,000 to help them with their activities
In 2007:
- We gave an unrestriced grant of €15,000 to help them with their activities
- We gave an honararium and expenses of €1,500 for a representative of Alzheimer Europe to attend an advisory panel ‘Theranostics for Alzheimer’s disease’ in Paris in April
- We gave an educational grant of €10,000 to support an exhibition in the European Parliament entitled Act now : make dementia a European public health priority between 17 and 24 September
- We gave an honorarium and expenses of €606.60 to allow the Executive Director to speak at a GSK sponsored event at the European Parliament on 12 June discussing the transparency of funding of patient groups in Europe.
Our funding represented 3.10% of their income overall.
In 2006:
- We gave an unrestricted grant of €15,000 to help them with their work
- We also gave an educational grant of €10,000 to support the attendance of delegates at the Alzheimer Europe conference in Paris (29 June - 1 July 2006) and for the organisation of an information workshop on the research programmes of GSK with delegates from AE member organisations (7 November 2006).
- We gave AE an honorarium and expenses of €1,199.97 to support the attendance of the Executive Director at GSK’s European Health Advisory Board meeting in London.
- We gave AE €99.60 to cover the costs and expenses of the Executive Director’s attendance at an internal GSK event in Brussels.
Based on the provisional accounts (December 2006) of the organisation, Alzheimer Europe estimates that this support represented 3.46% of their income overall.
