African HIV Policy Network

The AHPN is an alliance of African community-based organisations and their supporters working for fair policies for people living with HIV/AIDS in the UK, providing training, support, research and information and assisting in the promulgation of effective policies and good practice to this end. The AHPN is the only African organisation in the UK whose work is dedicated to policy, advocacy and representation at national level. Its major focus is on HIV and the sexual health of Africans in the UK.

Their mission is to influence and inform policy on sexual health and HIV through representation as well as participation in policy development nationally and internationally.

We have supported this organisation since 2003.

During 2008:

  • We gave an unrestricted core funding grant of £5,000 for the benefit of patients.
  • We gave a grant of £100 to support postage of AHPN leaflets to the International AIDS Conference held in Mexico City in August 2008.

Our support represents 0.53% of their overall funding.

During 2006:

  • We gave a medical fellowship award of £1,000 to help support attendance at the International AIDS conference in Toronto.
  • We gave a medical fellowship award of £5,000 to support the National African HIV Conference entitled: Sustaining momentum, HIV and working with African communities, held in London during Summer 2006.

Our funding represents 1.5% of their income overall.
