Asthma UK
Asthma UK is the charity dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the 5.2 million people in the UK whose lives are affected by asthma. Asthma UK works together with people with asthma, health professionals and researchers to develop and share expertise to help people increase their understanding and to reduce the effect on their lives.
We have supported this organisation since 1993.
During 2010:
- We gave £750 to aid the set up and delivery of World Asthma Day Youth Conference – Personal Asthma Action Plans in July 2010.
- We gave £13,335 as the first instalment of a three year commitment as unrestricted core funding for the benefit of patients 2011-2013.
- We paid an honorarium of £350 for Neil Churchill, Chief Executive of Asthma UK to attend an advisory board held on 8 December 2010.
- We gave an unrestricted core funding grant of £1,200 to Asthma UK Northern Ireland for the benefit of patients.
Our support represents 0.02% of their overall income.
During 2009:
- We gave a grant of £100,000 to support the formation and recruitment of the 'Asthma UK Nurses Programme', the formation of the 'Asthma UK Champions Network' and to support the Asthma National Strategy and Managed Clinical Networks.
- We gave £10,000 as the final instalment of a three year commitment to annual Corporate Gold Membership of Asthma UK, 2007 - 2009.
- We gave a grant of £5,000 to Asthma UK Cymru to support the setting up and delivery of the World Asthma Day Youth Conference Cymru on 5th May 2009.
- We gave £1,400 in respect of sourcing speakers and speaker honoraria for two meetings “The Asthma Divide A Local Perspective – Balancing Health Inequalities” held on 3 and 25 June 2009.
Our support represents 0.013% of their overall income.
During 2008:
- We gave a grant of £10,000 as renewal of the Asthma UK Corporate Gold Membership scheme. The scheme is designed to not only demonstrate our commitment to people with asthma but also how our expertise can help Asthma UK’s charitable objectives.
- We gave a grant of £16,500 as a 50% contribution to the cost of patient segmentation market research.
- We gave a grant of £50,000 to support World Asthma Day 2008 activities.
- We gave a grant of £166 towards the adaptation of the Asthma Control Test (ACTÔ) survey sheet.
- We gave a grant of £8,667 towards the development of a survey “How concerns about the side effects of steroid medication affect asthma management”
- We gave £250 to Asthma UK in respect of a speaker fee for a presentation given at a meeting in Maidstone on 10 October 2008.
- We gave a grant of £1,000 to Asthma UK Cymru to support the cost of printing the Quarter of a Million Voices document.
- We gave £150 to Asthma UK Cymru in respect of a speaker fee for a presentation given at a meeting on 27 November 2008.
- We gave £300 to Asthma UK Northern Ireland in respect of a speaker fee for a presentation given at a meeting in Northern Ireland on 6 March 2008.
Our support represents 0.79% of their overall funding.
- We also provided £20,000 on behalf of Lloydspharmacy to fund their Corporate Gold Membership and Pharmacy Support Service provided by Asthma UK which included expertise in developing a joint Lloydspharmacy and GSK respiratory Medicines Use Review programme.
During 2007:
- We gave a Medical Fellowship grant of £10,000 as renewal of the Asthma UK Corporate Gold Membership scheme. The scheme is designed to not only demonstrate our commitment to people with asthma but also how our expertise can help Asthma UK’s charitable objectives.
Our funding represents 0.12% of their income overall.
In 2006:
- GSK gave a three year medical research grant of £169,400 to Asthma UK to allow scientists at Cambridge University to study mediators of asthma at a cellular level.
- We gave a medical fellowship grant of £10,000 to join Asthma UK Corporate Gold membership scheme. The scheme is designed to not only demonstrate our commitment to people with asthma but also how our expertise can help Asthma UK's charitable objectives.
- We gave an educational grant of £7,086 allowing two people from Asthma UK to attend international medical conferences, specifically the American Thoracic Society meeting (£4,201) and the European Respiratory Society meeting (£2,885).
- We gave an educational grant of £4,500 to support a Parliamentary reception on World Asthma Day at the Palace of Westminster.
- We gave an educational grant of £1,500 to support Asthma UK Cymru's All About Asthma reception at the Welsh Assembly.
- Through a medical fellowship grant of £300,000, we supported Asthma UK's World Asthma Day campaign. The campaign launched the Asthma Control TestT, a simple questionnaire designed to help patients understand if their asthma is well controlled. This questionnaire was the first ever UK-wide asthma census and was completed by over 17,500 asthma patients, £18,000 was also paid with respect to fulfilment costs for the campaign.
In 2006 our funding represented 5.8% of their income overall.
