Patient group funding

British Liver Trust

Founded in 1988, the British Liver Trust is a national charity set up by leading hepatologists and patients, to provide support and education, and to help fund medical research in the fight against adult liver disease.

We have supported this organisation since 1992.

During 2010:

  • We gave two instalments of £7,500 to support the Trust with a Prison Project which aimed to look at why, against recommended guidance, very few prisoners receive vaccination against Blood Bourne Virus’.
  • We gave £15,000 to firstly support a scoping study for a project to improve the neonatal at-risk Hepatitis B care pathway and secondly contribute to the National Liver Strategy through British Liver Trust activities.

Our support represents 4% of their overall income.

During 2009:

  • We gave a core funding grant of £20,000 for the benefit of patients.

Our support represents 3% of their overall income.

During 2008:

  • We gave a grant of £9,491 to support the British Liver Trust telephone survey of healthcare professionals.
  • We gave unrestricted core funding of £22,000 for the benefit of patients.

Our support represents 4.1% of their overall funding

During 2006:

  • We gave a medical fellowship grant of £48,205 towards the following activities: development and printing of a guide for healthcare professionals on hepatitis B; re-print of a patient leaflet on hepatitis B; an awareness activity around hepatitis B to educate healthcare professionals and patients on the disease, its risk factors and preventative measures.
