Deafness Research UK

Deafness Research UK is the only national charity in the UK dedicated to improving the quality of life for hearing impaired people through medical research and information.  Deafness Research UK is active in undertaking medical research projects that aim to improve diagnostic techniques, technical devices and medical treatments available to hearing impaired people.

We have supported this group since 2006.

Our support represents 1.7% of their overall income.

During 2009:

  • We gave an unrestricted core funding grant of £10,000 for the benefit of patients, as agreed in 2008.
  • We gave a grant of £7,000 to support the inaugural Recent Advances in Paediatric Audiology (RAPA) meeting hosted by Deafness Research UK as part of National Knowledge Week for Hearing. This highly successful meeting brought together researchers, audiologists, speech and language therapists and doctors. Recent developments in their fields were shared and challenges discussed with the aim of finding ways to ensure that research is reflected in best practice and identifying future research needs to inform more effective services.
