Patient group funding

Great Lakes African Integration Network (GLAIN)

GLAIN was set up in March 2002 and is a charity organisation, which helped more than 220 families last year. Their main aim and objective is to relieve poverty, distress and improve the quality of life of refugees, asylum seekers and others, mainly from the Central African region (Rwanda, DRC, Burundi and Uganda), although they also welcome those from other regions, living in the London borough of Lewisham and its surrounding areas.

We have supported this group since 2006.

During 2006:

  • We gave a medical fellowship award of £5,000 to help fund a HIV prevention program, where young Africans and Asians will be taught about HIV prevention and general sexual health issues. Sport will be the motivating factor for attendance at these meetings and the funding will provide a venue, speakers and publicity for the program to take place.

Our funding represents 20% of their income overall.
