Patient group funding

Hepatitis B Foundation UK

The Hepatitis B Foundation UK was founded on 17 February 2006.  On that day a group of doctors, nurses and patient representatives met under the chair of Professor Arie Zuckerman, an international authority on viral hepatitis.  At the meeting the decision was made to create a charity which would work to promote interventions designed to prevent hepatitis B (including universal immunisation), to improve services for the treatment of hepatitis B, and to support people with hepatitis B infection.

The Hepatitis B Foundation UK:

  • Raises awareness about the prevention of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, including the key role of immunisation.
  • Raises awareness about the treatment and management of chronic hepatitis B.
  • Offers advice and information to individuals with HBV infection or to their families and friends, providing a 'bespoke' service by phone/email/post.
  • Facilitates networking between patients and/or families affected by HBV infection, putting people in touch with others for support and sharing of experiences.
  • Campaigns to secure the best possible services in the UK for the prevention of HBV infection, including universal immunisation.
  • Campaigns to secure the best possible services in the UK for the management of hepatitis B virus-related liver diseases, including liver cancer.

We have supported this organisation since 2008.

During 2009:

  • We gave a core funding grant of £7,000 for the benefit of patients.

Our support represents 9.8% of their overall income.

During 2008:

  • We gave an unrestricted core funding grant of £7,500 for the benefit of patients

Our support represents 10.5% of their overall funding.
