Patient group funding

Pulmonary Hypertension Association UK (PHA-UK)

The Pulmonary Hypertension Association UK aims to provide support, understanding, and information for all those people whose lives are touched by Pulmonary Hypertension. By bringing people together, and providing a focus for everyone throughout the UK and around the world, the Association aims to make the lives of patients, relatives and carers easier and more able to cope with the challenges that Pulmonary Hypertension imposes.

We have supported this group since 2006.

During 2010:

  • We gave an unrestricted core funding grant of £15,000 for the benefit of patients.
Our support represents 0.9% of their overall income


During 2009:

  • We gave £7,500 towards the EmPHAsis quarterly newsletter.
  • We gave £7,500 towards an educational ‘tear’ off sheet for healthcare professionals to give to patients.
  • We gave £1,000 for the production of a short film of the patients’ perspective of living with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension with Connective Tissue Disease (PAH-CTD).

Our support represents <1.5% of their overall income.

  • We also provided in kind support to the approximate value of £4,000, in the form of 24,000 A5 fliers and 4,000 A2 posters to raise awareness of the ‘Blue Lip PH Awareness Campaign’ in the UK.


During 2008:

  • We gave a grant of £5,000 towards the PHA-UK 2008 Conference web streaming on 15 November.
  • We gave a grant of £10,000 towards the “It Matters To Me” book.
  • We gave a grant of £15,000 towards updating the “Understanding and Living with PH” book.
  • We gave a grant of £20,000 towards the production of the EmPHAsis quarterly newsletter.
  • We also provided non-financial support to the PHA Awareness campaign “Pukka up for PAH” in the form of a stand in Stockley Park on 11th November to get as many blue lip prints to contribute to the UK 40,000 blue lips challenge.

Our support represents slightly less than 5% of their overall funding.


During 2007:

  • We gave a Medical Fellowship grant of £10,000 to partially support the production of a Rehabilitation/Exercise DVD and booklet for patients with pulmonary hypertension  

Our funding represents 0.67% of their income overall.



In 2006:

  • We gave a medical fellowship award of £10,000 to partially support the third annual PHA-UK Family Weekend held in May.

Our funding represents 0.86% of their income overall.
