Transparency

We believe that being transparent about our support for patient groups, our charitable giving and payments to healthcare professionals helps build trust with our stakeholders. Read about our disclosure below and see our recent announcements relating to greater transparency and improving access to medicines.

Patient group funding
We publish information on all our work with patient groups in our US, Europe and Asia Pacific, Japan and Emerging Markets regions, as well as information on our support for patient groups working globally, including details of the funding received. See details of our funding for patient organisations.

Charitable giving
We are transparent about our charitable giving with data published in our Annual Report and Corporate Responsibility Report each year. We also publish details of our individual charitable grants over £10,000 ($20,000).   Find out more about our grants.

Payments to healthcare professionals
In 2008 we announced that we would publicly disclose the payments we make to healthcare professionals who speak or consult on our behalf. The disclosure covers a broad range of payments for services such as consulting, speaking at meetings or funding of attendance at congresses.

  • In December 2009, we started this process by disclosing payments to US healthcare professionals for speaking and advisory services. The first posting covers payments made from April 1 through June 30, 2009 and future reports will be published quarterly. These data can be found on our US website: Payments made to US healthcare professionals.
  • For 2010, we will also disclose payments made to healthcare professionals in our European, Asia Pacific, Japan and Emerging Markets regions.

In March 2009, we announced that payments made to US healthcare professionals and/or their institutions for conducting clinical trials starting from 2010 will be reported. The first publication will take place in Q1 2011.
