Manufacturing apprenticeships

Our multi-skilled manufacturing apprenticeships are designed to create the manufacturers of the future. Would you like to study for a manufacturing qualification, learn practical skills, gain on-the-job experience and get paid at the same time?

Based at Ulverston (Cumbria), Barnard Castle (Durham), Irvine (Scotland), or Worthing (West Sussex).

We are currently closed for applications for roles starting 2014 but you can register your interest for roles starting 2015.

What will the apprenticeship offer me?

Our multi-skilled manufacturing apprenticeships offer the chance to study towards nationally recognised qualifications while gaining valuable, paid work experience. All manufacturing apprentices work towards an Advanced Apprenticeship in Manufacturing - and if you show the qualities we are looking for, you may be offered the opportunity to go on to study for an HNC, HND or degree in manufacturing.

What will the programme be like?

Our manufacturing apprenticeship lasts up to four years. In the first year, you’ll spend most of your time at college, studying theory elements of the apprenticeship and gaining some practical workshop experience. In subsequent years, you’ll complete a series of job rotations in manufacturing teams across the site.

Your rotations may include time in manufacturing, packaging, utilities and facilities, and automation and control – depending on where you are based. At the beginning of each rotation, you’ll be set a series of learning objectives, so you’ll know what’s expected of you. After the first year you’ll continue to attend college at least one day a week working towards your Advanced Apprenticeship in Manufacturing.

Your on-the-job training will include attending and root causing breakdowns, carrying out routine maintenance as well as assisting in the design, testing and commissioning of new equipment.

What will I learn?

We place huge importance on personal and professional development. You'll learn a huge amount and take on new challenges, while enhancing your technical or functional expertise and improving your business knowledge.

For example, you’ll learn how to analyse equipment data, identify trends, and suggest and implement improvements. You'll gain priceless communication, planning, organising, problem-solving, teamwork, confidence and networking skills.
