Graduate communications programme

Are you a strong writer and creative thinker, with good project management and people skills?

Are you interested in working across internal, external and product communications, providing a voice for a global healthcare business?

What's communications all about?

Communications is all about giving us a voice to build trust and achieve our goals. Internally, we engage, inspire and inform employees. Externally, we manage our global brand image and reputation. We do this by developing and delivering clear and consistent messages to patients, consumers and doctors, shareholders, investors, partners, the media and the general public.

Do I have the skills?

First and foremost, we look for the ability to absorb, review and interpret information to shape it into clear and compelling communications. We’re looking for enterprising graduates from a wide range of degree disciplines, who have achieved, or are on track for, a 2:1. Whatever your degree, you must have strong written and verbal communication skills.

What will the programme be like?

Your early career development across the two-year programme will provide a wide-ranging experience across internal, external, global and local communications practices. As well as developing through challenging job rotations in a variety of business areas, you'll be supported by formal learning and coaching. We’re a global company with numerous functions, so the skills you learn will stand you in good stead for a successful and rewarding career across many areas of the business and, possibly, many countries. Our aim will be to prepare you for a future leadership role within the communications function.

Where can I go?

Initial roles are within the UK, although there may be opportunities to gain international experience in the future.

What will I learn?

We’ll help you to develop your skills and knowledge across internal, external and product communications in our different business areas. These include

  • Pharmaceuticals
  • R&D
  • commercial groups
  • Consumer Healthcare
  • global manufacturing and supply (GMS)
  • Vaccines
  • cross-business groups such as investor relations, media, corporate responsibility and global brand communications.

You can expect exposure to our global marketplace. There will also be  opportunities to develop transferable skills such as leading cross-functional teams, influencing stakeholders, writing and presentation skills.

How can I apply?

Applications are now closed for our programmes starting in 2013. Details of the 2014 programmes will be posted in September 2013.
