Do you want to help discover and develop potential new medicines? Are you eager to learn from experts and be part of a vibrant student community?

As a science-led, global healthcare company, we develop new treatments and medicines that help people do more, feel better and live longer.

We have over 150 undergraduate placement programmes available in different areas of science, statistics and programming, some of which have been accredited by independent organisations. The majority of placements are based at our Medicines Research Centre in Stevenage – a vibrant scientific community of over 100 students. Other placements will be based at our sites at Ware, Stockley Park and Weybridge.

What will the programme be like?

Our placement students are valued for their contribution. You’ll be a key member of a multi-disciplinary project team, discovering and developing tomorrow’s treatments and medicines. The placement will give you invaluable practical experience of applying a wide variety of lab techniques to drive scientific improvement.

Your comprehensive training during the year will cover science, technology and personal skills. As well as learning all about the role of a research scientist, you’ll have a personalised development plan in line with your goals and aspirations. This will give you a clearer idea of the scientific path you may wish to follow in the future. You’ll also be able to build an extensive network of industry contacts, who will be able to advise you on postgraduate study and qualifications.

Do I have the skills?

You should have a strong interest in science, statistics or programming and be studying a degree in the following areas: biological sciences, chemistry, engineering, clinical research, mathematics or Computer Studies and be on track for a 2:1.  Please note that all placements will have different degree requirements so make sure you are aware of the requirements before applying.

You must be studying a sandwich degree course and the industrial placement must be seen as a recognised sandwich year of your course. A self-starter, you’ll need to be able to understand different ways of applying your subject knowledge. Excellent analytical and team-working skills are also important.

When can I start?

Recruitment takes place annually. The majority of applications open online in August/September every year with placements starting in August the following year.
