Undergraduate science placements
We offer undergraduates a choice of science placements. Our manufacturing science placements give first-hand experience of manufacturing in and out of the lab, with exposure to the best people, processes and technology. Our research and development (R&D) placements are based at our Medicines Research Centre in Stevenage – a vibrant community of over 100 students.

Do you want to help shape the world around us, taking newly developed products into full-scale manufacture?
Every year, we spend £3 billion on products that help people around the world do more, feel better and live longer. Global manufacturing and supply (GMS) is responsible for our entire portfolio of pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare products. With a global network of 85 sites in 37 countries, we deliver 1,200 branded products to 140 markets worldwide.
What will I gain?
A manufacturing science placement within global manufacturing and supply (GMS) allows undergraduates to come into contact with top-quality people, processes and technology.
You’ll be joining a well-developed scheme that places great emphasis on both training and individual development, getting a taste of graduate life in our organisation. During your year with us, you’ll gain first-hand experience of manufacturing both in and out of the lab, developing your understanding of how different sites operate, putting academic theory into practice and taking responsibility for your own projects. All this will build up your technical knowledge, as well as developing your communication, planning, organising, problem-solving, team-working and networking skills.
Do I have the skills?
You should have achieved or be on course for a minimum 2:1 degree, Masters or PhD in one of the areas described below. You must be studying a sandwich degree course and an industrial placement must be seen as a recognised sandwich year of your course. Leadership potential, resilience and genuine enthusiasm for the healthcare industry are also needed.
