Undergraduate supply chain placements

We’ve recently created a new simplified, regionalised, high-performing supply chain organisation for our European Pharmaceuticals business. This will allow us to be even more responsive to the needs of our customers. At the heart of the new organisation is a new supply chain hub (SCH). This is responsible for demand forecasting, replenishment planning and sales and operation planning. Based in the UK, SCH manages around 8,000 stock keeping units (SKUs) across 35 European markets.

What will a supply chain placement offer me?

These placements provide an excellent entry point for a career within the supply chain arena. During your year with us, you’ll gain an all-round view of supply chain management within a large, global healthcare company.

Working in our exciting, multi-cultural environment, you’ll be liaising with colleagues in many of our 35 European markets, as well as with our 80 global supply sites, which will help you develop your communication skills. You’ll be encouraged to put into practice the knowledge you’ve gained during your degree, and show your ability to innovate and think ahead.

Your role will involve:

  • helping to analyse sales data to allocate the most appropriate replenishment models to each of the products
  • supporting the development and optimisation of the European forecasting process for SKUs
  • supporting the replenishment of SKUs within our distribution channels
  • identifying improvement opportunities using data analysis and interpretation
  • applying a variety of modelling tools and techniques to contribute to supply chain improvement projects, from portfolio optimisation to working capital reduction
  • working with our global supply network on cycle time improvements

Do I have the skills?

You’ll need the ability to develop a good understanding of supply chain dynamics. A supply chain, logistics, mathematical or statistical degree would therefore give you a head start. A business-related degree combined with these subjects or modules in these areas would also be acceptable.

You should be on track for a 2:1 or above and you must be on a sandwich degree course and be taking the industrial placement as a recognised sandwich year of your course.

When can I start?

Recruitment takes place annually. Applications are open online in September with placements starting any time between June and September the following year.

How can I apply?

Applications are now closed for our programmes starting in 2013. Details of the 2014 programmes will be posted in September 2013.
