R&D in the UK

  • About 12,000 people work in R&D at GSK across pharma and consumer healthcare and of these 3,470 are based in the UK
  • In 2011 we spent £3.9 billion on R&D, approximately £1.8 billion of which was spent in the UK. This equates to more than 40 per cent of our global R&D spend.
  • We are the largest private sector funder of R&D in the UK.
  • Early research into new biopharmaceuticals, including treatments based on antibodies, takes place at our large R&D centre in Stevenage, in the UK.
