What is unique about Esprit?

This programme develops business acumen and research expertise in equal measure. You’ll be in an intellectually demanding, diverse environment where physicians and scientists meet to do the ground-breaking work that patients and our business depend on. Support and mentoring is a priority throughout the programme, and you’ll have regular access to senior management and leading scientific thinkers to help you support and accelerate development of the next generation of medicines for patients.

The programme is a career differentiator for participants. Members who have a high level of success on the programme are recognised for their contributions and are well positioned to accelerate their careers in the R&D function within GSK. Career opportunities vary widely by your interest, career alignment, and overall business need.

The programme could set you apart from your peers. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to training and development and roles on completion of the programme will be based on individual capabilities. Nothing is guaranteed, however, throughout the programme we’ll look to you to display the necessary behaviours to thrive in our business. There's no limit to success here, so it's up to you to prove yourself.

Past success following the Esprit R&D programme has resulted in development of senior leaders in their respective areas of expertise, including Scientific and Medical. We are very proud of the success and opportunities this programme offers these talented individuals, allowing them to develop into outstanding technical or people leaders who are now supporting the future needs of R&D.

In 2018 we introduced the R&D Data Leadership Programme. We acknowledge the use of data and analytics across the R&D organisation has become a critical part of the transformation of our business. The department of Data and Computational Sciences mission is to inspire transformation of R&D’s data into a strategic asset for all to use in better decision making. The focus now is driving implementation, so we can maximise the effective use of new tools and the available data by users across all of R&D, from those reporting the data, those conducting data discovery, through to experts in data and computational sciences. This aligns with the vision for GSK to be at the leading edge in the use of data to drive decisions.
