World COPD Day 2019: Together we can achieve more

World COPD Day is organised by the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) with their chosen theme this year being ‘All together to end COPD’.

Watch the videos below in which clinical experts and patient representatives explain why talking openly about the symptoms of COPD and how it affects daily life can make a difference. Hear what doctors want their COPD patients to tell them and why they encourage patients to ask for help to manage their condition.

At the bottom of the page the COPD Assessment Test (CAT) is available to help people with COPD explain to their doctor or nurse how their condition is affecting them on a daily basis.

Why is it important to tell your doctor about your symptoms?

25% of people with COPD don’t tell their doctor about all of their symptoms. Hear experts talking about why it is so important to be honest with your doctors or nurses.

What should you tell your doctor?

How much do you tell your doctor about how COPD is affecting you or your family? Hear from experts explaining what information to share with your doctor so that they can work with you to create a plan to suit your individual needs.

What our experts say to those affected by COPD

If you have COPD you may feel that you can’t bother your busy doctor or feel there is nothing more they can do. You may know someone who is struggling with COPD. Our experts encourage those affected by COPD to talk to them.

The COPD Assessment Test (CAT)

The CAT is made up of questions that explore how COPD impacts your daily life, and how this might change over time. This will give your doctor or nurse an idea of how they may be able to help.
