With around 1,000 staff the Barnard Castle site is the largest employer in Teesdale. The site covers approximately 60 acres (24 hectares) of countryside in and around Barnard Castle and manufactures over 50 products which are supplied worldwide to around 100 markets including the US.
Barnard Castle has three business units; Steriles and Inhalations, Topicals, and Cephalosporins. The site manufactures, fills and packs chemical and biopharmaceuticals in a range of dose forms including syringes, vials, nasal sprays, pumps, tubes, tablets, capsules and bulk granules.
The site also houses some central GSK groups like a regional centre within the company’s global pack management organisation.

Teesdale is an area of outstanding natural beauty, and is home to England’s highest waterfall, wooded valleys, open moorland, historic towns, picturesque villages and sandstone farmhouses. It’s described as the northernmost of the Yorkshire Dales.
The market town of Barnard Castle takes its name from the Norman stronghold around which it was built. It’s a maze of cobbled streets and winding lanes with elegant Georgian and Victorian architecture.
