GlaxoSmithKline Diseases of the Developing World ad campaign receives industry award
GSK: “Facing the Challenge” of three deadly diseases
Research Triangle Park, NC — February 16, 2007
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) today announced that its “Facing the Challenge” print advertisement campaign has received a Mobius Award certificate in the “Outstanding Creativity in Corporate Identity and Branding” category. The “Facing the Challenge” series of ads emphasizes GSK’s ongoing commitment to delivering needed treatment and resources for malaria and tuberculosis (TB) in Africa. The Mobius Awards, in its 36th year, is an international organization recognizing creativity in advertising. This year the Mobius Awards recognized creativity among television, radio and print advertising, as well as new media, package design, direct and mixed media campaigns.
GSK is honored to be recognized with this highly competitive, international award,” said Fran Martin, Vice President, Global Product Strategy for Infectious Diseases at GSK. “This campaign highlights GSK’s long-standing commitment to working in public-private partnerships to develop improved therapies for malaria and TB, which have a devastating effect on the developing world.”
The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified malaria and TB as two curable diseases responsible for millions of deaths in Africa each year. The three-part campaign was designed to highlight the advances that GSK and its partners have made to increase access to more effective and affordable treatment options for both diseases. GSK and its partners are currently developing a new artemisinin combination therapy (ACT), in response to the WHO recommendation that artemisinin be used in first-line treatment for malaria. GSK is also working with partners to reduce the treatment time for TB through more effective medicines.
In addition to its work in malaria and TB, GSK also provides medicines and resources to treat and prevent HIV/AIDS in the developing world. GSK is the only pharmaceutical company working to develop vaccines and improved treatments for all three deadly diseases.
This award-winning campaign was conceived by London, UK-based advertising agency, Junction 11, and was featured in three international health journals.
