Charlotte Allerton

Head of Research & Development and Chief Scientific Officer for ViiV Healthcare, Charlotte Allerton oversees the discovery and clinical development of our pipeline assets in support of our overall company strategy to deliver meaningful advances in treatment and care for people living with HIV.
Charlotte is a globally accomplished scientist who is known for her strong and compassionate leadership and successful track record in drug discovery and development. Her career started at Pfizer where she joined as a medicinal chemist and most recently served as Senior Vice President and Head of Preclinical and Translational Science. A driving force behind the discovery and development of an oral antiviral for COVID19 during her time at Pfizer, she and her team earned multiple honors, including the prestigious Prix Galien and ACS Heroes of Chemistry awards. For the last four years, she has been an important member of the ViiV Healthcare Board of Directors and strongly believes in our purpose and patient focus.
Charlotte's contributions to the field have been recognised. She is an honorary fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. In 2020, she received the Healthcare Businesswomen's Association Luminary award, and in 2024 she was recognized on the Medicine Maker Power List. Charlotte earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nottingham and a Master of Philosophy in organic chemistry from the University of Cambridge.
